Watermelon Bowls

Even though the kids are back in school, I am not ready to give up on the idea of summer and summer vacation.  So, I decided to post some recipes and thoughts on my most favorite summer fruit--WATERMELON!

I know, I know my editorial calender must be way off.  Watermelon posts should have happened last May or June as we were heading into the summer season--not as we head out of it.  But, maybe you still have a watermelon in your fridge.  Maybe you can still buy them in season.  Maybe these are ideas for next year.

This isn't really a recipe for watermelon bowls--more of a tip.  My dad would always do this for us as kids and now my own kids fight over who gets the watermelon bowl.  A watermelon can only make two---and I always want to have one too.

Here is what you do:

1) Cut the ends off the watermelon.  Gauge how think to cut it based on how hungry you are.

2) Using a spoon, loosen up the watermelon from the rind.  (I suppose you could use a melon baller as well, if you cared a lot about presentation.)

3) Serve with a spoon or fork to the kids.
