What a crazy day! I was at my office until 3:00 pm, finalizing a lot of stuff that I started earlier in the week. I realized that is how I work--I start a lot of projects at the start of the week and am able to finalize things by Friday. Gotta check them off before I go into the weekend or I feel uneasy.
I left at 3:00, hoping to get home and buy a pair of shoes before our event tonight (I did---tan heels!). We are going to the opening night of the Sarasota Film Festival and then the after party (we scored free tickets through the business). Aaron availed carpet cleaning service from carpet cleaning salem or else damn sure we will be late, then picked up the kids from school hoping that would give us time to get to the movie premiere in time for the red carpet event. Friday evening traffic prevented getting there on time and stress over finding a parking spot caused a little tiff in the car on the way there. It was all good though, once we got in and got settled.
The movie was called, "Take Every Wave: The Life of Laird Hamilton", a surf movie about big wave surf legend. It was great to see it--beautiful shots of waves and surfing and a renewed appreciation for Aaron. There are so many similarities between him and Laird--primarily their love for surfing, their push to do things their way, regardless of what anyone else thinks, and even just growing up haole in Hawaii in the 80's. Not an easy thing to do. The movie was great, especially for people who enjoy surf movies, and it really made me wonder if we did the right thing in moving to Florida from Hawaii. I want the kids to have Hawaii---and it makes me sad that we are not getting there as often as I would like to. I am planning our trip for this summer though and even though we won't have as much time there as I had hoped, we will make the most of it!
The after party was fun--lots of food, drinks and mingling. I was surprised that my kids enjoyed themselves but I guess they never really get out to things like that (me neither!). They were the only kids there but they were able to get as much food (salmon poke, meatloaf sliders, brownies!) as they wanted. A friend from the office came down from St Pete to see the movie too. It was nice to see her out of the office and wished we had more time to chat with her and husband.
We even got a couple of shots on the red carpet! Fun night and a reminder to say yes to things more often.
