Braces! Sawyer has braces now! I feel for him so because his mouth is hurting and he can't eat anything. He was a trooper though while getting his braces, even though he has a hard time with anything in his mouth. I can't wait to see what his smile looks like at the end of this 18 month journey.
Today was just a regular work day, with a stop in at the orthodontist in the middle of the day. I worked until about 4:30 and then dropped Sawyer off at the beach with Aaron to surf. It was the least I could do to try to distract him from the pain of the braces. Unfortunately, there was no surf.
I dropped Nova off at practice and she was in such a talkative mood. She was remembering times from her "childhood" . The time her teacher scolded her for drawing on the wall when she was really writing on a piece of paper attached to the wall; or the time that I made her walk around the farmers market in Olympia, when she was REALLY hungry and just wanted to eat. It is funny to think about these interactions that some people remember and others likely don't. Good things and bad things. I remember vividly a moment when I was about 18. My dad, brother and I had gone camping and our car broke down. We had to hitchhike to the bottom of the mountain and then wait for my mom to arrive by the side of the highway. My brother and I decided to race to pass the time. We set out a starting line and my dad was the finish line. I won. After, my dad said, "You really look like a runner." It was such a compliment to me and probably just a casual remark to him. Just a reminder that words (and actions) matter and I need to pay closer attention to them.
Sawyer got home in time from his disappointing surf session to go grocery shopping with me and we scoured the store trying to find something he could eat. We settled on tomato soup, yogurt and we might try a bit of poke with rice tomorrow. He is hungry. And miserable. I feel so bad for him.
Once the groceries were unloaded, I made dinner (burritos) and wrote this update. Now, I am going to be up late while I try to finish up the taxes for the business.
