Today is our last day in Nashville. Our friends Fran and Abby had to fly out early this morning and Nova and I had a few hours to explore on our own. We knew we wanted to head to Biscuit Love and to the wings mural in The Gulch. We had been by a couple days before but there was such a long line to take a photo in front of the wings and the girls didn’t want to wait. Nova was disappointed so I was glad we were able to go back and get her photo.
We UBER’ed there and walked back, realizing it really wasn’t that far away from our hotel. I loved all the walking we got to do. I also loved that we were right next to the train tracks because I love trains. I tried to get close to a moving train (not too close) but Nova was scared. It reminded me of when I was a kid and my dad would walk the train tracks. I was always so scared of him being close to the tracks. Now, I am just fascinated by them.
After our early morning exploration, we headed to the airport to look for a Nashville T-shirt for Nova. She ended up finding a hat, which is really cute.
On our flight, there was a fallen solider being escorted home. There was a sort of ceremony in the airport area. They handed us flags, we watched as the casket was loaded on the plane, and recited the pledge of allegiance. I had no idea that kind of thing occurred and thought the whole pomp and circumstance was so special. I love that we were able to honor this soldier even though we knew nothing about him or her.
Our two flights were pretty uneventful. I watched episodes of Veep and Nova watched La La Land. Our second flight had no video monitors so we both napped and cuddled. Nova has said a few times, “I loved our time in Nashville” and “Thanks Mom for going to Nashville with me.” Those words are so precious. She had a great time and so did I. I have always wanted to go on trips with my kids one on one and this was our first. Sawyer and I went to Miami last year for a week--to meet Al Gore and learn about climate change. I should start planning another trip for Sawyer and I. I bet he would love a surf trip to Puerto Rico......
We are back at home now and ready to get going with the week tomorrow. Not looking forward to heading back to the office but the kids start spring break next week so they only have four more days to push through.
