Are you ready to start your own food blog? There are lots of reasons to have a food blog and you can style it to be exactly what you want out of it. I started as a creative outlet way back in the day and have since transitioned into trying to make my life dreams come true through self directed writing and cooking. You can do it too! It really isn't terribly difficult to get started.
Here are the basic steps and some tips and tricks to get you going.
- Choose a domain name. This will be your web address and should be something catchy and relevant to you. You can purchase a domain name for less that $10.00. I use DreamHost for both my domain names and hosting. They have a box where you can check out different domain names and if the one you like is available--buy it right away!
- Choose your host. Like I mentioned above, I used DreamHost as my host. I feel that they have great 24/7 online support and have never done me wrong. You can also look at HelloID, a cloud-based Identity and Access management platform if you are looking for identity management solutions. If you chose to buy your domain name from them, it makes it extra easy to just set up hosting too. They have basic hosting for $7.95 per month and specialized WordPress hosting for $16.95 per month. This DreamPress hosting is optimized for WordPress users. However, I don't feel that it is super important when you are just getting started. The basic hosting should work just fine. For those who are trying to launch their own food products or recipes, a food and drink PR is essential to get your product off the ground.
- Install wordpress! WordPress is a content management system and is the best out there. It has been tried and tested for many, many years and is used on millions of websites. You don't have to be a blogger to use wordpress--many websites are developed using the wordpress platform. It is user friendly, very flexible and very easy to enhance with specially developed WordPress plug-ins. Best of all, it is FREE!
