This morning started with arguments over dog food. Aaron didn't want to make an early morning run for dog food because the surf was too good. I couldn't do it because I had to get to my office.
It just didn't set the day up right. Sawyer had spirit day at school so he got on the bus wearing bright rainbow socks, excited for the day. For some reason, I really wanted Aaron to just pull him out of school to surf. I knew he was excited about spirit day but something seemed to nag at me.
Most of my time at the office was uneventful. I went to a new coffee shop with Linda and tried a local kombucha. Linda is the best--she has such great advice, knowledge and attitude about everything. It helps that she is dating/soon to be married to a lifetime surfer. She gets me.
Around 4:00 pm, I got a text from Aaron saying, "I am going to tell you to call me in a few minutes and I need you to do it." It was weird but of course, I would return his call. When I finally talked to him, he let me know that Sawyer was in trouble at school and he needed to head down there to pick him up and discuss the matters with the administration. As soon as I got the call, I left the office to be sure I could meet Nova on the bus.
Once we all got together as a family, we decided to have dinner out (Mandeville Beer Garden), to just release the events of the day and enjoy being together.
I'm not going to get into it here but this "situation" did provide for a teachable moment with Sawyer. It also really showed me how Aaron acts in an emergency/high-stress situation (remains calm) and proved to me that I have really good kids.
Looking forward to the weekend tomorrow!
